Coach Montgomery died Friday, February 19, 2010

Mr. John J. B. “Gus” Montgomery, 77, widower of Barbara Jane Nexsen Montgomery, died Friday, February 19, 2010, at his residence. Mr. Montgomery was born April 23, 1932 in Kingstree, a son of Donald B. and Essie Blakely Montgomery. He graduated from Kingstree High School and Presbyterian College and was an Army veteran.

Mr. Montgomery was a teacher, coach, and athletic director at Andrews High School and Kingstree High School and was a member of the SC High School Coaches Association. He was a member of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are: his children, John J.B. “Bub” Montgomery (Stephanie) and Mary Adams “Molly” Montgomery, both of Salters, SC, Mellissa Delpopolo Stackhouse (John) and Paula Jean Delpopolo, both of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Ashley Brooke Montgomery and Stephen Brock Montgomery; and great grandchild, John Owen Montgomery.

Graveside funeral services will be 3 P.M. Sunday, February 21, 2010 in Williamsburg Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, 411 N. Academy Street, Kingstree, SC 29556.
